Our timing couldn't have been worse. The very day before Lockdown 1.0, we said farewell to our long term tenants and financial security. The plan was to furnish our luxury converted Malt House, in a prime spot in the beautiful city of York, into a 5 star holiday home in just 2 weeks and launch it immediately. We'd have our first guests within 4 weeks. It was all planned meticulously, sofas and beds ordered, and deliveries booked in for definite. How wrong could we have been?
It turns out that furnishing a house top to bottom when all of the shops are closed is a little tricky. No rush though, as we couldn't have any guests anyway!
7 months on, post Lockdown 2.0, and One Clementhorpe Maltings is looking just stunning. From Bluetooth speaker in the shower head, remote control Velux blackout blinds in the bedrooms, Habitat, M&S and John Lewis furniture throughout, to Emma Bridgewater crockery and all mod cons you could think of, the place is even better than we had planned.
Still, the nerves didn't settle until we had our first booking. When we saw that our first guest would be the Deputy Mayor of London, we were both thrilled and terrified. We think we've thought of everything, but what if we missed something? That's one review we need to be positive!
Several bookings on, we're thrilled to have had 10/10 ratings from our guests. I think we can take that as assurance that we really have thought of everything. Come and see for yourselves...
